Don't let these small councils in small towns fool you guys! San Antonio Council 1768 can boast that they are rich with history and can brag about a lot of things. They claim to be the seventh oldest council in Florida, with the state convention being held in San Antonio as early as 1915. They are proud of their Catholic history in this town and don't mind telling you if you have just a minute... but only for a minute! They have a picture of every grand knight, their original charter and other very interesting artifacts.
Today, Council 1768 hosted a very unique appreciation for its religious. Sunday, after Mass on January 31st, the council devoted much time and hard work to honor seven priests from the Benedictine Order from their parish and from the nearby Saint Leo Abbey.
Grand Knight Sam Sessa proudly showed off his council and the hard dedicated work they managed to place in order for all to have a great time. District Deputy George Novac watched in agreement as the grand knight whirled around the building making sure that everyone was taken care of. The council served nearly 200 dinners that consisted of barbeque pork loins, spare ribs, baked beans, roasted potatoes, salad, bread and dessert.
After the meal, Grand Knight Sessa gladly thanks all of the priests for all the hard work and devotion they did. He also mentioned all of the work the knights do to help the parish and community. Without the two working together, the community there would have suffered a great deal.
The priests were then able to stand up and say what was on their mind. Most thanked the knights and gave a brief story on their lives as a priest. It was interesting to learn about each priest, some information given was never known until today. Then it was time for the audience to share stories about the current and past priests of the community. The day was enjoyed by all and as everyone was leaving mentioned about how they wanted to come again next year.
