Council fundraiser turns out to be a membership tool

Saint Anne's Council 7210 in Ruskin held their annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser and what was supposed to be just another annual event turned into many surprising results. The council is famous around the parish for its home-style cooking and their hospitality, but it was unlike any other they have seen in a long time.
During their event, they offer 50/50 raffles and usually have other prizes to offer off as raffles as well. The dinner includes a choice of salads, bread, desert and drinks. Financial Secretary Fran Nason PGK was passing around a card for everyone to sign. He also was the one selling off all the raffle tickets. Grand Knight Al Martinsky was sitting next to Fran saying that the council was expecting a good crowd. They were hoping to have at least 100 plates sold, as they normally do. Brother Bill McCracken cooks all of the spaghetti sauce- usually enough to cover 150 plates.
The card, as mentioned before was to go to a brothers family, Joe Saski is about to be deployed to Iraq and the card was to wish him back safe and sound. During the meal, Brother Fran handed the card to Father John McEvoy, pastor of St. Anne's as he presented to the family words of love and encouragement. Fran explained to the group that the knights were a family who stuck together, who as they served the community and church was united as a family. When a family member left for any reason, the whole council was sad, but looked forward to the return of brother Joe and would watch over his family until he did.
After the card was given to the family, a brother knight from a nearby council was so impressed and touched by the kind words that he filled out a form 100 to transfer into the council. Another former member asked to reactivate his membership and promised to become more active in the knights.
Membership, you never know when or where it will ever happen or why... just be ready when someone decides to come to you because you may have all ready come to them and not even know it. The council didn't realize what an impact it had on the parish that night until the end of the night. One further thing, the council made enough for 150 meals and served over 200.... a miracle?
