| My Brothers in Christ, I want you to know how grateful the Priest are for your prayers and concerns for the Church. The real Church is its people, and without your presence, participation and support, our Church is only a building, bricks and mortar. The Lord is calling on us to use our time, treasure, and talent to glorify God. Take a step in faith, get involved with your Church and see what a difference it will make in your life. This is another reason we have the Round Tables in our Churches, so that we can work with our Priests to see what their needs are. They are many. Please let them know we will help. This is what the Knights of Columbus is all about. God Bless you for your service to our Priests and Religious. Please pray for them and support them anyway you can. "An Evening of Faith, Family and Fraternity" Rally was held at Christ the King Parish Center on October 16, 2009. Thank you to all that attended this first Rally. A blockbuster of a presentation was offered by representatives from the Supreme Council as well as from the Florida State Council. This was for everyone, including those wanting to become Catholic, or if Catholic, a more involved Catholic. Also we encouraged attendees to become a Knight of Columbus or join the Columbiettes. In fact, this was for anyone wanting to support the Catholic Church and Her Mission. There was a beautiful reception after the Rally, hosted by Council 12165 at Christ the King Parish Council. In observance of the "Year for Priests" and in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of St John Vianney Seminary, there will be a special pilgrimage day sponsored by The Diocese of St Petersburg, Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Bus transportation will be available. The cost is $20.00 per person. Departure from Tampa Bay area (seperate points from Tampa and St Petersburg) at 5-5:30am, continental breakfast, tour of campus, Seminary presentation, lunch with Seminarians, Holy Hour, Mass with Seminarians, Departure for Tampa Bay area 3:45pm. For more information, contact office of vocations 727.345.3452 or hlv@dosp.org. Reservation are required for anyone who wishes to participate whether you ride on one of the diocesan buses, a parish bus, or in a private vehicle. Let's have lunch and Mass with our Seminarians and let them know we are behind them 100 percent. These are our future priests. Our most recent Priest being Ordained was Father Carl J. Melchior, Jr. He is a member of Knights of Columbus, Christ the King Parish, Council 12165 in Tampa, Florida . He was ordained to the Priesthood of Jesus Christ on May 16, 2009, the last priest to be ordained this year at the Diocese of St Petersburg Cathedral of St Jude the Apostle. His first Mass was on Sunday, May 17, 2009, at his home parish, Christ the King, Tampa , Florida . It was beautiful. The Church was filled with parishioners and Knights. We had twelve 4th Degree Knights present for the Color Corp, as was requested by Father Carl. Nineteen (19) new Deacons were ordained at the Diocese of St Petersburg Cathedral on October 3, 2009. John Fox was one of the newly ordained Deacons, a Knight of Columbus from St Jude the Apostle Council 14178. His first Mass was on October 4, 2009 at the Cathedral. What a magnificent homily he gave. Reverend Fox also helped with the Installation, along with many priests from the Diocese. Father Morris did the Installation, as our Bishop has been sick for some time, but recovering. Father Waters is now Rector of the Cathedral as of October 28, 2009. The Knights of the parish were very supportive, along with a host of parishioners for the event. As examples of some of the activities taking place around the State, I am providing the following examples. If your Council has undertaken a major event of general interest, please forward the details to me. St Rita Council 4444 made several suggestions for honoring our priests during the "Year of the Priests". Special prayers for seminarians and priests, a weekend for special recognition of them, support of a specific seminarian @ $500.00 per year in their honor, dedication of 1st Degree ceremonies to their honor, a priest's appreciation dinner, Corporate Communions at each church dedicated to the priests are examples of projects you can take on. Council 13657 held a priest appreciation dinner on September 19, 2009. Council 5131 will hold a priest appreciation dinner on November 6, 2009, with our 4th Degree Color Corp presenting Colors. The priest appreciation dinner will be held January 16, 2010 at JFK Memorial Council 5635. The Annual Memorial Mass at JFK Council 5635 will be held on November 25, 2009. There will be a 90th Anniversary of Council 2105 on Saturday, December 5, 2009. There is a new Grand Knight in Father Lopez Council 5737 and they have just received Star Council Award. They have worked hard and have a Round Table Coordinator in all of their churches. They had a 50th Anniversary Kick-Off Dinner at Church of The Transfiguration and raised $1700.00. One Knight provided items for the dinner and was the DJ for the evening. The Knights of 5737 are also helping with maintenance and remodeling parts of the church and grounds of Sacred Heart Church in Pinellas Park . The Cathedral of St Jude the Apostle School has been in bad need of some paint. The Knights of Council 14178 took care of the painting of the school. It is beautiful. Also, the church has been landscaped with some new plants and mulch. Thank you Knights of Columbus for all that you do for our priests and our Holy Catholic Church. Please remember our deceased priests, Edward J. Farren, Dermot O'Dougherty, and Deacon Louis Izzo, to name a few. Please pray for those imprisoned. Let's not forget them, also the priests that are in nursing homes, Fr. Jim Merkel, and Msgr. John Bolger. Also, please keep Bishop Robert Lynch in your prayers. Remember to call on the Angels to be with them and comfort them who are Priest's for Life. Tomorrow November 2nd is All Souls. Let us call down the Saints to help, by repeating the Litany of the Saints. Our late Pope John Paul II mentioned the Knights many times, the contributions to restoration of St Peters Basilica and their financial support, which has made it possible to have the Pope's voice heard worldwide. He encouraged the Knights to be Faithful to the Vision of their founder, Father Michael J. McGivney, and to continue to seek new ways of being a leaven of the Gospel in the world and a siritual force for the renewal of the Church in Holiness, Unity, and Truth. Brothers, In Solidarity with our Bishops and Religious, let us help our priests and support them, and yes defend them. Go to them and ask how you can help, maybe by being a lector, sing in the choir, be an usher or Eucharistic minister. You will be Blessed for your service to the Lord. Yours in Christ, Vivat Jesus, Robert Miller Church Activities Director Florida State Council 4497 94th Terrace Pinellas Park Fl 33782 727.576.7277 rlcmiller@tampabay.rr.com |
