Posted by | Tonight was certainly full of ghosts and goblins. Many Knights of Columbus council's sponsor what is known as Trunk or Treat. The event is to host a Trick or Treat at a safe environment with known neighbors in a well lit location so that, children and parents can enjoy the evening. Most councils hold their special event at their church or council hall. The concept is to invite parishioners and families from the community who may be afraid to hand out candy at home. They are encouraged to decorate their vehicles or just their trunks and pass out their treats. It gives a safe haven for parents and young children to go to and trust. Kids can have a fun time and parents don't have to be nearly on guard as if they were in the streets in an unfamiliar part of town. The cars back in to greet each other and the fun begins. In case of rain, some councils move their treats into a social hall and place the candy on tables. Not as fun, but the kids don't care... they win either way. Grand knight Frank Velez was proud to show off his council's show place tonight. Chairman Tom Gibbons was busy not only trying to set things up in his personal car, but trying to make sure things were running well everywhere. The council offered free hot dogs, Coke, cotton candy, music and candy for all. After everyone is full and just about to leave, St. Clement Council 8095 of Plant City, has two different contests - one is for the best decorated vehicle, first, second and third place prize winners; and the best decorated contestant with different age ranges and first through third place prize winners. |
